The skin is the outer covering of the humans body. In humans, it is the largest organ of the integumentary system made up of multiple layers of ectodermal tissue, and guards the underlying muscles, bones, ligaments and internal organs. Human skin is similar to that of most other mammals except that it is not protected by a pelt and appears hairless though in fact nearly all human skin is covered with hair follicles. There are two general types of skin condition, hairy and glabrous skin.

Because it interfaces with the environment, skin type plays a key role in protecting (the body) against pathogens and excessive water loss. Its other functions are insulation, temperature regulation, sensation, synthesis of vitamin D, and the protection of vitamin B folates. Severely damaged skin will try to heal by forming scar tissue. This is often discolored and depigmented.

The types of Skin Cancer Foundation (SCF), founded in 1979 by dermatologist and Mohs surgeon Perry Robins, MD, is an international organization devoted to the prevention, detection, and treatment of 3 types of skin cancer. The Foundation is headquartered in New York City and is a 501(c)(3) public charity.

The world’s most common cancer, types of skin cancer affects two million people and kills over 10,000 people in the US annually. The vast majority of skin cancers are associated with ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. The incidence and impact of skin cancer can be dramatically reduced through education, behavior modification, and early detection.

Human skin type color is primarily due to melanin; it ranges from skin almost black in appearance to white with a pinkish tinge due to blood vessels underneath. Variations in skin hue are mainly of genetic origin and are associated with sunlight, but the evolutionary causes are not completely certain. The leading explanation is they are adaptations to sunlight intensities which produce vitamin D deficiency or ultraviolet light damage to folic acid. Other hypotheses include protection from ambient temperature, infections, skin cancer types or frostbite, an alteration in food, and sexual selection. According to scientific studies, natural human skin type color diversity is highest in black or Sub-Saharan African populations

Skin cancer types is the most common form of human cancer. It is estimated that over 1 million new cases occur annually. The annual rates of all forms of skin cancer are increasing each year, representing a growing public concern. It has also been estimated that nearly half of all Americans who live to age 65 will develop skin type cancer at least once. The most common warning types of skin cancer is a change in the appearance of the skin types, such as a new growth or a sore that will not heal.
